Late in the fall of 2006 our Music Team had an idea. Let’s take the whole chorus to Harmony University! We floated the idea with the Chapter Board and lo and behold, they said yes. So, in January of 2007 we announced our plan to the Chapter members. It took some convincing to get them to believe that we were serious but once they did, they took to the idea like gangbusters.
Many of our guys had never been to Harmony U and didn’t have any idea what it was all about. We provided some detailed explanations and some suggestions about different courses that were available and signed up everyone who could make the commitment to go. The folks in Kenosha were also very excited about the idea and were happy to help with planning the week for the guys.
We made the decision to bring Gary Steinkamp , our Chorus Coach along with us so we could have a class session working with the Chorus. We also managed to squeeze in some time with Joe Liles, Gary Stamm and Jim DeBussman. You might ask how things could get any better, well, the Chapter was able to pay for the full tuition for all attendees and also contributed towards the travel expenses as well. In the words of the late, great Dave Stevens, “Hell of a deal.”
